Quality control or quality assurance

Whether you are new to Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) or have used MAP for many years the odds are that you can optimise your production and ensure an improved quality of your products. It is all about ensuring that consumers have positive encounters with your brand – every time they choose your product.

When food packages are gas flushed they should also become subject to a strict quality program to ensure that they contain the right gas composition. The gas composition in the package is a critical control point (CCP) and the minimum requirement is to make a random test of the gas content, e.g. every 15 minutes, using a manual quality control device such as one of our headspace analysers.

With larger scale production a manual QC procedure will most likely not be efficient, since today’s packaging machines run at a very high capacity and the costs of repackaging 15 minutes worth of production are very high. In such cases PBI-Dansensor recommends an on-line quality assurance solution for your packaging machine. With on-line quality assurance you will be notified immediately of any change in the gas composition of the package – a process which ensures a higher quality of your product and saves labour time in your production.

What are your existing MAP quality control costs?
Typically the return on investment for an on-line solution is less than a year. However, you can calculate your own costs on:
